"Chalk Rain" is the seventh Oh Yeah! Cartoons short in the ChalkZone series, notable for being one of two shorts (alongside "Chalk Dad") that were not included in the regular series.
Synopsis[]
When a dragon wreaks havoc around ChalkZone, Rudy must find its creator to stop it from causing more damage.
Plot[]
A "Swap-A-Thon" is held in ChalkZone, where Zoners give each other items they no longer want (a swap meet). However, rain starts to fall in ChalkZone, with Rudy curious what's going on. Snap tells him it's "Chalk Rain," and Rudy thereafter draws an umbrella to for himself and Snap. The latter goes on to say Chalk Rain occurs when sidewalk chalk dries and is washed away by rain in Earth. Once it falls to the ground, it turns into what it was originally.
Once the Chalk Rain has cleared, the sidewalk chalk starts turning into what it was: a large dragon. It roars at two people on a rollercoaster, with the Zoners running away from the creature. Snap explains to Rudy that the dragon is Chalkzilla, the former piloting an airplane and telling Rudy to "hop on." Snap uses the plane's fuel to blind Chalkzilla temporarily. After Snap says, "stick it to 'em," Rudy gets an idea: drawing a bottle of glue under Chalkzilla, who can't move after the fact.
However, Chalkzilla eventually manages to rip the pavement off, causing Rudy and Snap to run away. Rudy uses his chalk to make a hot-air balloon, accepting that Chalkzilla is too strong to defeat on his own. He uses the balloon in an attempt to find its creator. When Rudy draws a circle into the real world, he finds a Chinese woman upset about her work being washed away. Rudy introduces himself, while the woman states her name is Ming Lan. She asks if Rudy is a magician, to which he replies to a chalk artist. As she was responsible for drawing the dragon, Rudy takes her with him to ChalkZone.
Ming reveals that she planned on having her dragon, Tin Luong, to be the first Chinese dragon to fly, further explaining she had yet to draw his wings before being washed away, and states this is why the dragon is behaving this way. Ming instructs Rudy to draw wings on her dragon. Meanwhile, Snap and the Zoners try to stop Tin Luong with a fishnet, to no avail. It isn't until Ming uses her flute that Tin calms down. Rudy uses tiny wings at first, with Ming telling him they need to be larger. Rudy succeeds on his second attempt, giving Tin butterfly wings. The dragon leaves a beautiful rainbow as it flies away, with Rudy and Snap admiring it.
