Plot[]
Rudy and his classmates are about to have lunch, with Mr. Wilter reminding the class that when they return, they will have to pick a partner and show what might exist in the future. Penny is upset at Rudy, who had told her the assignment was due the next week. Rudy decides he and Penny should enter ChalkZone as to him, there's no better place to have lunch. Penny tells Rudy when they're done, they should head to the library.
Rudy and Penny enter ChalkZone, as he tells her ChalkZone is the best place to study. Penny grabs a notebook from a nearby tree, causing Snap to fall down and volunteer to help them with homework. Penny and Rudy state in unison, "we're doomed." Meanwhile, a Craniac is searching through junk, which it finds ordinary as it isn't futuristic. Suddenly, its censors indicate a nearby futuristic device, but is disappointed when it is an atomic broom, as he has hundreds of these back at his dome of the future, declaring it useless.
The Craniac wonders when it'll find something truly revolutionary, with his censors detecting another futuristic device. It overhears Penny saying "futuristic" as Rudy tells her they should eat first before working on their project. The Craniac spies on the trio with a telescope, feeling the Magic Chalk Rudy has is exactly what it's looking for, amazed it can draw anything. It wheels towards the kids. Snap suggests to Penny and Rudy they use an electric toothbrush, with Penny and Rudy telling him it's been done.
Snap then suggests a bubble gum prechewer, so one's jaw won't be broken from too much chewing. This leaves Penny and Rudy bewildered as the Craniac sneaks from behind them. The Craniac at first decides to use a smart bomb, which fails. Then he grabs a "dumb dart". Penny suggests a tool that would allow someone to write anything they want, with Rudy pointing out that already exists: a pencil. Rudy is then hit with the dart, having become stupid. He scratches his ear with his leg, like a dog.
Penny and Snap are perplexed by Rudy's behavior. She asks Snap what that is on his head, with Snap replying it looks like a plunger. Penny tries to remove it, but the Craniac appears, telling her to leave it attached. Snap tells Rudy to give the Craniac a taste of his chalk, with Rudy putting the chalk inside the Craniac to Penny and Snap's horror. The Craniac thinks the Magic Chalk grants wishes, wanting a gumball machine, with it confused why it's not working.
Penny and Snap work together to remove the dumb dart, while The Craniac continues making wishes with the chalk. The Craniac asks for an instruction manual for the chalk, with Penny telling it there is none. She tells The Craniac a human artist must use it for it to work. The Craniac in response grabs Rudy with its robotic arm and tells Rudy to show it how to use the chalk. Penny claims she is the human artist, with Snap himself claiming the same. The Craniac now takes all three captives to its dome of the future.
The Craniac introduces the dome to the trio, showing off the futuristic inventions it has found. When Snap realizes all of them have drawbacks, Penny explains that all of these futuristic inventions were once failed ideas on the chalkboard, erased to ChalkZone. Once the reach The Craniac's home, it throws Penny and Snap into the kitchen as it tries to get Rudy to teach it how to use the chalk. Since Rudy is still under the influence of the dumb dart, he asks if The Craniac has tried the hokey-pokey. The Craniac realizes it must remove the dart in order to make progress.
Rudy, now back to normal, asks The Craniac if he can show it how to use the Magic Chalk. However, Craniac 3 tells Rudy that may have worked with Craniac 2 but not with the current model. It threatens Rudy, stating he will be sent to the chair of terror if he doesn't tell Craniac how to use it. As Snap's eggbeaters cause a power surge, this gives Penny an idea: to overwhelm all the electrical devices.
Rudy is now in the chair of terror, about to have a loaded diaper put in front of his face. Snap despairs that Rudy is a goner, with Penny asking him to help with her plan. Now with the diaper over his head, The Craniac decides to offer the next punishment: a kissing grandmother. As Penny and Snap try to overwhelm the devices, Penny manages to blow a fuse and stop all electricity. As The Craniac leaves to prepare it, Rudy escapes from the chair using paper clips, and retains his Magic Chalk, congratulating Penny on her feat.
With the power back on, the kids run out of The Craniac's home, but it closes the door before they can escape. While The Craniac is busy discussing how superior it is to them, Rudy uses the chalk to draw a new Craniac, Craniac 4. Craniac 4 declares Craniac 3 obsolete, sending it into a pod chamber. But as Craniac 4 continues Craniac 3's mission, Rudy tries running with Penny and Snap holding the door open for him. They can't escape without identification, but luckily Craniac 4's arm comes off, allowing Penny, Rudy and Snap to escape the doom of the future, using a rocket-powered skateboard.
Back in the real world, class has now resumed, with Reggie giving his presentation about a hypothetical object, with Wilter being perplexed by it. Penny and Rudy have since returned, with messy hair. When Wilter calls upon Penny and Rudy for their project, they improvise and state there will be dentures that brush themselves, a bubblegum prechewer and instant materializers. Wilter calls their ideas "incredible," and tells Rudy he can accomplish great things without doing cartoons. Penny and Rudy, using Craniac 4's arm, high five each other as the episode ends.
