Gift Adrift is the second part to the fourth episode of ChalkZone that aired on April 26, 2002.
Synopsis[]
On Joe Tabootie's birthday, Rudy must both save a vacuum (his father's present) and ChalkZone simultaneously.
Plot[]
At the Tabootie house, Rudy is drawing while his father is reading Popular Mechanical magazine. The particular page Joe is reading features the Hoovac 3000, a computer controlled vacuum cleaner that senses dust. Joe wants it as it would clean up his butcher/deli shop restaurant (as he puts it) with ease. However, Millie reminds Joe it's time to go to work, but he points out today is his birthday.
When he leaves, Millie shows her son that the very vacuum her husband wants is in the closet. She tells Rudy to hide it in a place where Joe wouldn't think to look. When he gets to his room, Rudy opens a portal to ChalkZone and leaves the Hoovac there. Rudy tells Snap the vacuum is his father's birthday present, telling Snap to keep an eye on it until Rudy returns.
Lars, Bathtub Granny and other Zoners wonder about the vacuum, clearly having never seen one before. Lars asks Snap what it does, with Snap trying to figure this out himself. Snap clicks the buttons randomly, and accidentally activates the vacuum, which proceeds to suck the chalk grass, Lars and other Zoners. Back in the real world, Millie asks if Rudy found a good hiding place, and shows Rudy a sweet message she wrote for Joe. However, when he enters ChalkZone, Rudy finds that it's quieter than usual, until he hears Snap screaming "The Hoovac is coming!". Rudy draws a scooter and searches the chalk city for Snap and the vacuum.
Snap, still holding onto the vacuum as it rampages through Chalkzone, sucks up Queen Rapsheeba. Rudy, using a scooter he made with chalk, finds Snap and asks what's going on. He replies he's trying to stop the Hoovac. Rudy tries to help but makes things worse as it continues sucking more chalk, including the scooter. Rudy admits it's his fault, as he should have never hid the Hoovac in Chalkzone. As soon as the Hoovac sucks up the chalk lake, Rudy and Snap let go of the vacuum, still sucking all the chalk dust in sight. Soon enough, the Hoovac has Snap locked on target!
Rudy reads the manual, which is of no help as Rudy doesn't understand the complex language. He decides he needs Penny for extra help, telling Snap to keep the vacuum busy before he returns. Snap has to keep the Hoovac busy in the meantime, which creates a Snap-shaped crop circle. Penny is conducting a science experiment, which fails when Rudy startles her. Rudy erases her math equations, to her frustration. Rudy explains he's about to destroy ChalkZone and ruin his father's birthday at the same time, ending with "You have to help me!"
Penny, now realizing the seriousness of the situation, goes with Rudy to ChalkZone, which is now just a patch of grass. Penny notices some chalk drawings are falling into an infinite abyss, causing her to quip "I'd find that so fascinating if I wasn't so terrified." As Rudy and Penny search for Snap and the vacuum, Joe returns home just now, as Millie prepares his birthday cake. Joe wants his birthday present right away, with Millie telling him to wash up and she'll make him dinner.
Penny and Rudy meet up with Snap, who tells the two he's the only Zoner left due to the Hoovac having sucked up everything. Penny tries to read the manual, but it slips out of her hands. Snap tries to grab it, but he and the manual get sucked into the Hoovac. Penny wants to return to Earth, feeling ChalkZone being destroyed would be preferable than being in an infinite void. Rudy uses the chalk to make stairs for he and Penny to escape, but he thinks there has to be some way to save ChalkZone. Then he remembers the bobby pin his mother gave him, and pierces the vacuum's bag, freeing ChalkZone's land and the Zoners. Snap worries when the vacuum is still moving, but just then its battery runs out. Penny and Rudy leave ChalkZone for the real world with the Hoovac in hand.
An impatient Joe has been waiting for his birthday gift, with Millie calling for Rudy operatically. Just then, Rudy and Penny come into the Tabootie's kitchen with the Hoovac in tow. Joe is happy to have gotten what he wanted, and Penny reads off the instructions from the manual.
