Rudy Tabootie initially found the Magic Chalk in a box of regular White Lightning chalk while writing lines on the blackboard in detention. When he wrote the letter O on the blackboard, he discovered that the chalk had the ability to make portals to the magical land of ChalkZone.
Magic Chalk appears to originate from the Magic Chalk Mine in ChalkZone itself, though it is unknown how it came to be in the real world when Rudy first discovered it.

- Rudy Tabootie = Rudy uses the magic chalk throughout the series, from entering Chalk Zone to even create things to help out saving it.
- Penny Sanchez = Penny has used the magic chalk twice in the series, the first in Power Play when Rudy is captured and used it to to sneak into the secret lab in order to save him (which confuse Rudy). Then again in Chalk Queen when she tricked Skrawl into giving her it due to him unable to use the chalk.
