Mildred "Millie" Tabootie (née McNally) is Rudy's mother. She is a stay-at-home mom who works from home as an advice columnist for the local newspaper. Bill Burnett (the show's creator) stated in an interview that she is also an opera singer, implying this was her profession before meeting Joe and having Rudy.[1] She is voiced by Miriam Flynn.[2]

Personality[]

Millie is a kind and friendly woman, a good mother who has an operatic singing voice when she calls Rudy to come down for dinner, for example.[1] She enjoys doing yoga in her spare time.

Physical Description[]

In comparison to her husband Joe, Millie is shorter and overweight. She has curly shoulder-length blonde hair that has a similar style to the late Marilyn Monroe and blue dot eyes. Millie wears a lavender dress with matching heels and a white pearl necklace with matching earrings. In some episodes, she wears a teal polo shirt, with matching heels, a green skirt and an emerald pearl necklace with matching earrings (similar to Penny's). As a kid, Millie has a pink hairbow and wears a pink dress and black Mary Janes in addition to pink knee-high socks.

History[]

Millie when she was in fifth grade.

Millie has lived in Plainville since childhood and attended Clunkwright School with her husband, Joe Tabootie.[3] As a fifth grader, she was a champion speller.[3]

Relationships[]

Rudy

Rudy is Millie's only son. Millie has a loving relationship with her son.

Joe Tabootie

Joe is Millie's husband. The two are deeply in love and have a good relationship. Joe has been in love with Millie since elementary school, when he first saw her win the spelling bee and thought she was "the prettiest girl he'd ever seen."[3] In high school, they went to a Hawaiian-themed prom together, and they dreamed of going on a Hawaiian vacation together, sharing a special connection to the musical number "Honolulu Lulu."

Tillie

Tillie is Rudy's aunt and the sister of Millie. The two women are good friends, often spending time doing yoga together.[4]

Sophie McNally

Sophie is Millie and Joe’s niece and Rudy’s younger cousin. She finds the two playing with each other very adorable.[4]

Trivia[]

  • Millie's habit of singing operatically originates from co-creator Bill Burnett's mother, who was an opera singer.[1]
