Rudy's Story is the second segment of the first episode of ChalkZone and originally aired on March 22nd, 2002.
Synopsis[]
Rudy and new girl, Penny Sanchez, bond over what he did during summer vacation.
Plot[]
New girl Penny tells the class about her summer vacation where she learned about spiders, with most not caring with the exception of an intently listening Rudy. A bored Reggie shoots a spitball at her, followed by Rudy doubting he could do better. Reggie lifts Rudy up by the neck until Mr. Wilter interjects and tells him to go next. Reggie states he broke a student's nose, stole another's bike and took lunch from nerds. Wilter, having heard enough, pushes Reggie away as he calls for Rudy to go next.
Rudy shows off a sketchbook titled "Adventures in Chalkzone," where comic book-style panels show Snap and the surroundings. Rudy tells the class he entered ChalkZone, as Penny leans in with intrigue. However, Wilter interrupts Rudy, telling him it was a writing assignment and not a comic book. Mr. Wilter yells at Rudy as Reggie laughs. Soon after, the school bell rings. Wilter admits to Rudy he expects more out of him and tells him to stay in during recess to use words instead of images.
Penny walks up to Rudy after Wilter leaves, telling him she thought it was a very interesting story, and even wants to see Rudy's comic book. Rudy is happy to give it to her and asks if she really liked it. Rudy in turn compliments Penny's report. She starts reading through the comic and asks Rudy about select panels. Rudy replies about what really happened to him in ChalkZone, recounting his experiences on The Amazin' River and its whereabouts. Eventually he meets Snap, in a web of gum. Rudy, with large boots on, fixes the problem by using scissors to cut the gum. Suddenly a spider hops in, but Penny interrupts the story by pointing out scientific inaccuracies, with Rudy stating "In ChalkZone, spiders chew gum."
Back to the story, Rudy frees Snap at last, but the spider is now on the web and shoots Rudy's scissors with its gum. Rudy and Snap both try running away, trying to avoid the spider and its gum. It eventually catches Rudy with his right foot, running after him when he's trying to get out of it. He takes the boots off and runs away, jumping off the cliff. However, Snap is caught again in the spider's gum, but he makes an effort to jump away while the spider pulls. The spider starts eating the gum to capture Snap, with Snap calling Rudy for help. The latter instructs he jump down, at which point the gum unravels and frees Snap, who falls off the cliff.
Snap asks a question about spiders in the story, with Penny replying with a scientific explanation. She suggests to Rudy a scene he can incorporate in the story regarding the spider, with Rudy stating that's now the way it happened. Penny points out it would add more danger to the story. Rudy returns to telling the story, as he and Snap continue running from the spider. Rudy uses a shield at first, but it eventually sticks Snap to it with the spider's gum. Rudy tries freeing Snap as the spider comes closer. Just as Snap says Rudy should draw something, Rudy grabs his Magic Chalk, but it's covered in gum thanks to the spider. Rudy decides to carry Snap with the shield.
Snap catches gum in his mouth, which gives Rudy an idea. Snap continues chewing, and Rudy instructs him to blow, turning the gum into a bubble large enough to take the two into the air. The spider stops pursuing Rudy and Snap, having found new prey. The spider is shown eating its prey alive as a burger. Penny points out the way true spiders eat their prey, grossing Rudy out. She asks, "Isn't it great?" when, just then, the bell rings again, signifying class is back in session. Mr. Wilter asks Rudy to show what he really did during summer vacation, with Penny worried. Rudy assures Penny everything will be okay as he quickly writes down what he did during the summer, a brief paragraph describing he drew the comic book.
Wilter realizes it is a written assignment, but warns Rudy from now on, no more cartoons. However, he falls down, to his students' laughter. As Reggie placed stolen lunch from recess on the teacher's chair, he believes Reggie is at fault, and punishes him with detention. All his classmates laugh, including Penny and Rudy.
